Salome with John the Baptist head on a Platter is a 1910 portrait by the Russian artist Victor Stember.
The artist originally painted Salome with St. John the Baptist's head on a platter. In Photo # 20 and 23, the blood from the head can be seen with the artist sitting in front of the rest of the painting. The purchaser of the painting did not like the severed head so Stember painted out the head and painted a mirror in its place. See painting # 64 in this gallery for the Salome with mirror painting.
Interestingly, this painting was also made into a postcard which was one in a series of Stember's paintings. Some were sold to fund a charity organization named 'Lubenskoye Society About the Care of Beggars.'
