This fascinating painting is intriguing because of the gentlemen behind 'Carmen' and the expression on this face.
The artists daughter wrote on the back of the photo of the painting that this painting sold for 5,000 rubles in 1908.
This painting was later made into a postcard for a series of Stember's paintings. Some were sold to raise money for a a charity organization called 'The Society of Beggars.'
