Family Photograph 63

The family purchased this book in Moscow at the Russian State Museum while in Russia in 2006.  The title of the book is 'Ladies in Waiting (Gentlewomen) and Maids of Honor- 18th to beginning of the 20th Century.'

In the book is a full page photo of the portrait Victor Stember painted of Her Royal Highness the Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna Romanov.  She was Czar Nicholas' sister.  See painting # 199 on this site.

In the description of the painting it states that the Grand Duchess is dressed in a maritime themed dress to depict her role as leading the Sea Crew, one of her duties as a member of the Royal family.
