Portrait of unknown lady(Morozova?)
1899 · Moscow
Portrait of unknown lady(Morozova?) is a 1899 portrait by the Russian artist Victor Stember.
This painting was seen by the family at the Yusupov Palace in 1906. We presented a CD of all the paintings we aware of, to the curator in hopes that he might be familiar with some of them. To our great surprise, the curator exclaimed, 'We have that painting!' We all ran up the beautiful entrance staircase and stood in awe that we had indeed found a 'lost' painting. This portrait was on loan to the Yusupov by the Gatchina Museum near St. Petersburg. It had not been identified as belonging to Stember because the signature was not on it, but since we had the photo with the identification on the back written by Natalie Stember, the Palace curator was as delighted as we were to be able to identify the painting.
Unfortunately, our camera malfunctioned and our clear photos turned out to be a blur and all that can be enjoyed is to see the beautiful yellow dress with black belt and bodice decoration.
Please see the blurry photo in the Photo Gallery section of this website.
