Margarita Kirillovna Morosova

The artist's family had the opportunity to view this painting in the Andre Bely Annex of the Pushkin Museum in Moscow.  Margaret Kirill Morosova, who was a socialite in Moscow and very well known in Literary and musical circles, was greatly admired by Andre Bely, a famous Russian poet. He would write Poems to her, signing them as 'Your White Knight.'  This continued for some time and when she finally discovered it was Bely, she gave him this portrait of herself which had been done by Stember.  

He displayed it over his bed and Stember's family was fortunate enough to view it there in Bely's Museum which is located in his former  home on Ararat Street. Olga Pasternak, the curator of the Bely Museum gave the tour to the family.

Under the full page picture of this portrait in the book 'Andre Bely --Alexander Blok' is written:

Sometime in the spring of 1901 I received a letter signed 'Your Knight'.  I felt very much interested in this letter because of its non-standard content, unique language and overall thoughts in it which reminded me of Vladimir Soloviev...I kept receiving those letters from time to time during three years...In the Spring of 1903 I bought in a bookstore a small book by poet Andrey Bely, of which book I heard from many people. I opened the book and was astonished seeing in it the phrases from my letters.  Thus I realized that in the Symphony he spoke about me under the name of Fairytale.'  (M.K. Morozova, Andrey Bely)
