In The Sun
1889 · unknown
In The Sun is a 1889 portrait by the Russian artist Victor Stember.
Also featured in a Russian magazine article, this sweet charcoal drawing shows the talent of the artist, even early in his career. The time frame of 1889 indicates this work was also done at Lubanovo, the family estate of Stember's wife, Nadia. It was located about 75 miles outside of Moscow and enjoyed until 1891 when it was sold and the proceeds divided between Nadia and her sisters. This enabled the Stember family to purchase their own land out side of Moscow and build their summer dacha named 'Dubrachok' for the Oak groves (doubrava) which surrounded it.
Stember's signature can be seen on the lower right corner.
