At Nature Study 'Plein Air' is a 1893 painting by the Russian artist Victor Stember.

A sketch of this painting appears in the photograph #23. Stember noted in his diary that he enjoyed painting landscapes very much and felt that he would have been very good at it had he studied it instead of portraiture.

A reference in his diary refers to spending time with the painter Klever and his son as in this excerpt:

Wednesday, November 27, 1918

'We had a visitor for three days, the painter Klever, the son.  We went out into the park together, to paint in the freezing weather.  I painted two landscapes, one with the figure of Nikolai Ivanovich in his famous yellow leather jacket.  An Autumn landscape with a sheet of ice covering the pond.'

Stember's signature can be seen in the lower left corner.
