Seamstress
1912 · unknown
Seamstress is a 1912 portrait by the Russian artist Victor Stember.
See painting #109 on this site for another painting by Stember of this same woman but painted from another position in the room. The family has a large black and white photo of this painting which was cut out from a magazine article stating it was painted by Stember. Nothing else is known about the magazine or article but on the back is written 'A Seamstress' 1912 Dubrachok. Dubrachok is where the artist and his family spent their summers at their dacha in the countryside near Moscow. This would account for the seamstress being barefoot and the rustic look to the room.
